Venezuelan oil revenue and the Betancourt deal
Stage 2 of 5: Inquiry · Letters and records requests · Last development 2 Oct 2026
Oversight Democrats are asking how the administration manages more than $13 billion in Venezuelan oil revenue, and about a deal giving the US a stake in a Venezuelan oil company through a firm led by Alejandro Betancourt, an alleged money launderer under criminal investigation.
The Vitol donations and the oil sale are reported correlation; no official finding links them. The Washington Post says its donor-list reporting does not establish a connection between gifts and government actions.
